Initially destined to the Hormigas Islands, three miles from the end of the cape, economic and constructive reasons placed it where there was a large watchtower that was demolished and whose materials were used to build the new tower. However, its high cost motivated that they were not built. In 1862 the definitive project was approved, which entered service in 1865. Equipped with a rotating optical device, an olive oil lamp and an appearance of light of occultations every minute, it reached 23 miles. In 1882 he began to use paraffin, later another of wicks was used and in 1919 an installation of incandescence by petroleum vapor was inaugurated. In 1925 a new optical system came into service, with an appearance of fixed white light varied by flashes of the same color every 15", with the same scope. In 1960 it was electrified, and in 1971 began the work of replacing the flashlight, optics and appliances, by the current ones, achieving the appearance of groups of 2 flashes and a nominal range of 23 miles.
