The west tower of Wangerooge is just a day mark and was never in operation as a lighthouse. The position of it's precursor was 800 m more to the south. This old lighthouse was lost in a winter storm flood in 1854. After thr flood the tower stood in flat water and was finally destroyed in 1914. The existing tower was build in 1932/33.
